Built between 1863 and 1880 using materials entirely imported from France, the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica is one of the finest examples of Romanesque Revival architecture in Southeast Asia. Its twin bell towers, each 57 meters tall, have dominated the District 1 skyline for over 140 years and remain a defining image of Saigon. The cathedral sits directly beside the Saigon Central Post Office — itself designed by Gustave Eiffel's firm — making this corner of Paris Square one of the most photographed blocks in Vietnam. Unlike many colonial-era churches that have been extensively renovated, Notre-Dame retains much of its original French-imported red brick and iron structure, giving it an authenticity that draws architectural historians alongside regular tourists.
