Designed by Gustave Eiffel's architectural firm and completed in 1891, the Saigon Central Post Office is a functioning postal facility housed in one of Southeast Asia's finest examples of French colonial public architecture. Its 60-meter barrel-vaulted interior — decorated with colonial-era maps of the Indochina telegraph and telephone network painted directly onto the walls — has changed remarkably little since its construction, giving visitors a genuine sense of 19th-century French Indochina. The building operates as a working post office where locals send packages and tourists buy stamps, alongside its role as one of HCMC's most photographed landmarks. It shares a small plaza with Notre-Dame Cathedral directly across the street, and a giant portrait of Ho Chi Minh presides over the main hall.
