Hot stone massage is a premium therapy that uses smooth, heated basalt stones as an extension of the therapist's hands. The heat from the stones penetrates deep into muscles, allowing for deeper relaxation and more effective muscle release with less pressure.
Smooth volcanic basalt stones are heated to a comfortable temperature and placed on key points of the body. The therapist then uses the warm stones to massage muscles with long, flowing strokes. The combination of heat and massage creates unparalleled relaxation.
Deeper than any manual technique — tight muscles that don't respond to pressure alone open up under sustained warmth
The combination of heat and manual work gets into layers that standard massage never reaches
Clients frequently fall asleep on the table — the stones do what willpower alone can't
Hot stone massage and Swedish massage are both relaxation-focused styles, but they achieve it through fundamentally different mechanisms.

Everything you need to know before you book
Hot stone massage requires a stone heating unit, which the therapist brings and sets up in your room — allow 8–10 minutes for the equipment to reach working temperature, so the actual setup is slightly longer than a standard massage. Because of this, we recommend booking at least 3 hours ahead to ensure both therapist and equipment availability. Same-day bookings are routinely available before 7 PM. The most popular booking window is mid-evening (7–9 PM) where the warming effect feeds directly into sleep. Book via WhatsApp with your hotel, session length, and preferred start time.
Hot stone massage is strongly evening-skewed — the warming, deeply relaxing effect is most valuable as a prelude to sleep. The 7–9 PM window is the most popular. A 90-minute session is the standard choice; the 60-minute format feels rushed given the setup time and the nature of the heat work, while the 120-minute session is excellent for guests with a free evening who want the full effect. Cold-weather travelers or guests in heavily air-conditioned rooms often book hot stone specifically for the warming sensation — it's genuinely more comfortable than at a traditional spa where you walk through air-conditioned corridors after. Book at least 3 hours ahead for evening sessions.
The therapist arrives with a professional stone heating unit, basalt stones, table, and linens — setup takes 8–10 minutes while the stones reach temperature. Before any stone touches your skin, the therapist tests the temperature on their own forearm first, then on a low-sensitivity area of your body. Stones are placed on the back, hands, and feet as anchor points while the therapist uses a moving stone to massage other areas with oil. If any stone feels too warm at any point, say so immediately — it's adjusted without hesitation. The session runs the full booked duration. Payment is cash after.
“The hot stone massage was a completely different experience from anything I'd had before. The warmth worked into muscle layers I didn't know were tense. Setup in my hotel room took five minutes and the therapist spent the full 90 minutes on the session. Slept perfectly.”

The basalt stones used in hot stone massage are heated to between 50°C and 55°C (122–131°F), which feels deeply warm and soothing when applied to muscles. At this temperature, heat penetrates approximately 3–4 centimetres into muscle tissue — significantly deeper than hands alone can achieve — allowing for muscle relaxation that is both faster and more complete. The therapist tests each stone on their own forearm before placing it on your body and will adjust the temperature immediately if you feel any discomfort. Stones cool naturally during the session, which is normal. The experience should feel like sustained warmth, not burning. If at any point a stone feels uncomfortably hot, tell your therapist and it will be removed or replaced with a cooler stone without interrupting the flow of the session.
Hot stone massage is safe for most healthy adults, but it is contraindicated for certain conditions. You should not book hot stone massage if you have diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), heart disease, varicose veins, blood clotting disorders, or are in any stage of pregnancy. It is also not appropriate if you have sunburned skin, open wounds, recent surgery, or skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis in the areas to be massaged. If you take blood-thinning medications, have nerve damage (neuropathy), or have reduced heat sensitivity in any part of your body, please inform us before booking. For clients who are uncertain whether hot stone massage is safe for their specific health situation, we recommend consulting a doctor first or choosing a standard massage type as an alternative.
No. Burns from hot stone massage do not happen when the session is performed by a trained therapist following safe temperature protocols, which all MassageGo therapists adhere to. Stones are heated in a professional stone warmer that maintains a consistent, controlled temperature. Before any stone touches your skin, the therapist tests it against their own wrist or forearm — a standard safety step. Stones are always applied over a thin towel or sheet first when placed on sensitive areas such as the spine. Throughout the session, your therapist actively monitors your response and will remove or swap any stone that feels too warm. If at any point you feel burning heat, discomfort, or any unpleasant sensation, say so immediately and the therapist will adjust without hesitation.
